Fix Windows Vista 0x80070020 Backup Error

While performing backups you may encounter the following Windows Vista 0x80070020 backup error:

"Error: 0x80070020 - The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process"

Cause of the Error

This error message may occur due to one of the following reasons:

  • You have ActiveSync or some other tool that synchronizes files between your desktop and a device enabled on your Vista PC.
  • The Auto-protect or real-time protection feature of your Antivirus tool is enabled.

Resolution Method

Depending on the cause of the error, you may perform the following tasks to resolve the issue:

  • Turn off the file synchronization utility, and/or

"Error code: 0xC004F013" is usually generated when you try to install Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (RTM release) on your computer.

This error message is known to occur if you have the KB941649 Windows Vista update installed on the PC.

Resolution Method

To resolve this error message and successfully install Windows Vista Service Pack 1 on your computer, you may need to uninstall the KB941649 update from your PC. To do this, you may use the Windows Add or Remove Program utility.

To ensure complete removal of the update, you may choose to use a reliable third-party program uninstaller, such as Perfect Uninstaller. You may also use a reliable registry tool, such as RegServe to clean your registry after removing the update.

After the update is removed, install the service pack on your Vista PC.

You may receive the following error 0x80070032 on your Windows Vista computer when you manually try to create a System Restore point:

The request is not supported. (0x80070032)"

Cause of the Error

This error is generated when the following Windows Vista services are disabled on the system:

  • Windows Event Log
  • Task Scheduler

Resolution Method

To resolve this error message, perform the following steps to enable the disabled services:

  1. Open Start menu, in the Start Search box, type services.msc, and then select Services.
  2. In the Services management window, scroll-down and double-click on Windows Event Log.

  4. Exit the Services management console window and restart your Windows Vista PC.
