What is connapi.dll?
The connapi.dll module is a Connectivity API(Application Programming Interface) from Nokia PC suite software.
When starting your Windows computer or launching Adobe Photoshop Elements 6, you may receive the following error:
"apdproxy.exe: Unable to locate component. This application failed to start because ConnAPI.dll was not found."
Cause of the Error
Generally, the above issue occurs when there is some problem in Adobe Photo Downloader.
By design, Adobe Photo Downloader is built to search for several specific types of devices, including Nokia Phones when it loads. When the Nokia PC Suite software is installed on a computer, Adobe Photo Downloader checks for the ConnAPI.dll.
However, at times, due to some fault in Adobe Photo Downloader, it looks for the ConnAPI.dll file on a computer even when Nokia PC Suite software is not installed.
The above error may also appear if for some reason Adobe Photo Downloader is not able to locate the ConnAPI.dll file even when the Nokia PC Suite software is installed on the computer.
By default, the Adobe Photo Downloader starts automatically when Windows loads. That is why the above error may appear when Windows boots.
To repair this apdproxy.exe error, use any of the following methods:
Method 1 â€“ Remove the NOKIAManager.mox file
Note: The NOKIAManager.mox file is used to download photos from your Nokia mobile phone. So, in this case, you would use Method 2 to rectify the error. In case you plan to use a Nokia phone later, then copy the NOKIAManager.mox file to its default location or reinstall Photoshop Elements.
To fix the apdproxy.exe error, remove the NOKIAManager.mox file. This file stores the data that Adobe Photo Downloader uses to communicate with Nokia phones.
To remove NOKIAManager.mox, perform the following steps:
- Close Photoshop Elements.
- Double-click My Computer on your desktop.
- Browse to the C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 6.0\moxplugins folder.
- Right-click the NOKIAManager.mox file and click Cut.
- Next, paste the file on some other location, such as your desktop or My Documents.
- Reboot your Windows computer.
Method 2 â€“ Reinstall the Nokia PC Suite software
Note: You should use this method only if you connect your Nokia mobile phone to your Windows computer.
Nokia PC Suite software is used by Windows computers to communicate with your Nokia mobile phone. If you are using a Nokia mobile phone and Nokia PC Suite software is installed on your computer, then to fix the above issue, uninstall and reinstall Nokia PC Suite software. If the error still appears, then check to see if an upgrade version of Nokia PC Suite software is available. If yes then install it to fix the error.
Likewise, if you do connect your Nokia mobile phone to your computer but have not installed Nokia PC Suite software, then install the latest version of Nokia PC Suite software on your computer.
Method 3 â€“ Disable Adobe Photo Downloader
You can also resolve this apdproxy.exe error by preventing Adobe Photo Downloader from loading automatically when Windows starts. However, in this case you will need to manually start Adobe Photo Downloader when you connect an external device, such as a card reader, camera, or flash memory device.
To disable Adobe Photo Downloader, perform the following steps:
- Open Photoshop Elements.
- Go to Organizer
- Next, on the Edit menu, select Preferences, and then click Camera or Card Reader.
- Now, in the Preferences dialog box that open, clear the Auto Launch Adobe Photo Downloader On Device Connect option and click the OK button. It is also recommended that you perform a thorough scan of your Windows registry using a reliable tool, such as RegServe, to identify and fix any issues that may be causing the errors.
