Resolve hpzimc09.dll Error

Hpzimc09.dll is an essential HP printer file and is associated with HP DeskJet Imaging. If the file is absent from your computer, you may not be able to use your HP printer.

Error Messages

You may receive any of the following error messages after a failed attempt to install printer drivers:

  • “The file hpzimc09.dll on (unknown) is needed. Type the path where the file is located and then click OK.
  • “The file hpzimc09.dll on “hp cd” cannot be found. Insert “hp cd” in the selected drive and then click OK.

Resolution

Use the following steps in the sequence they appear to resolve the issue:

Resolution Method 1

  1. Insert your HP Printer CD in your CD drive.
  2. Click Browse in the file error box.
  3. Select your CD drive and locate the hpzim09.dll file.
  4. In case you are unable to locate the file, browse through the contents of the Windows driver version folder on the HP Printer CD, as you may find the file there.
  5. Select the correct language, operating systems folder, and drivers.
  6. Click Open and continue with the installation.

In case the above mentioned steps fail to resolve the issue, chances are that remnants of the previous installation are still present. Move on to the next step to resolve the issue.

Resolution Method 2

  1. Click Cancel in the file error box.
  2. Click Start and then click Run.
  3. Windows 95/98/ME users need to type C:\Windows\inf in the Open box and press Enter. If you use Windows NT or 2000, type C:\Winnt\inf.
  4. Configure your file view settings to show hidden and system files.

    Windows ME/2000/XP

    • Click Tools and then select Folder Options.
    • Click on View Tab in the Folder Options dialog box.
    • Below Hidden files and folders, select Show hidden files and folders.
    • Uncheck Hide file extensions for known file types and Hide protected operating system files.
    • Click Apply to save your preferences, and then click OK.

    Windows 95/98/NT

    • Click the View Menu, and then select Folder Options.
    • Click on View Tab and then select Show All Files.
    • Click Apply to save your preferences, and then click OK.
  5. In the inf folder, locate and delete the specific printer file.
  6. Next, go to the C:\Windows\inf\other folder and delete all files related to your HP printer.
  7. Now, search and delete the oemXX.inf folder.

    Windows XP\2000\ME

    • Click Start>Search>Files and Folders
    • In the ‘look for file’ box, type oem.
    • In the text box, type hpz.
    • In the ‘look in’ drop-down menu, select C: Drive.
    • Click Search.

    Windows 98/95

    • Click Start>Find>Files and Folders.
    • In the ‘look for file’ box, type oem.
    • In the text box, type hpz.
    • Select C:Drive and press Enter
  8. Delete all found files.
  9. Reinstall your printer driver

Method 3

  1. Locate the hpzimc09.dll file present on your computer and copy the file to C:\Windows\System32 folder (in case the file is missing, download it from an online DLL directory and save the file in C:\Windows\System32 folder).
  2. Click Start>Run.
  3. In the Open box, type regsvr32 hpzimc09.dll and then press Enter to register the DLL.
