Methods to Uninstall Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Professional

Ideally, you must uninstall any program installed on your computer using the Add or Remove Programs feature. So, if this is your first attempt at removing Acrobat 6.0 Professional from your PC, you must follow the steps given below on your Windows XP or Windows 2000 computer:

  1. Close any Adobe Acrobat window open on the system.
  2. If you want to retain any documents in the Adobe Acrobat 6.0 program folder, move them to another location.
  3. Run the appwiz.cpl command or open Control Panel and then select Add or Remove Programs.
  4. If you see any entry for Adobe Reader 6.0.2 in the Currently installed programs list, remove it. This is an update for the Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Professional program.
  5. Next, select Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Professional, and then select Remove to start the uninstallation process.
  6. Restart your system after the uninstallation is complete.

  1. Close any Adobe Acrobat window open on the system.

  3. Open Windows Explorer and change its settings to display all file name extensions. To do this, perform the following:
    1. On the Tools menu, select Folder Options.
    2. Next, on the View tab, clear the Hide extensions for known file types check box.
  4. Restart your computer-this step helps in ensuring that no Acrobat file is being used on your computer.
  5. After the system restarts, press Ctrl+Alt+Del key combination to display the Task Manager.
  6. Here, right-click on the AcroTray.exe process, and then select the End Process button.
  7. Close Task Manager.
  8. Open Windows Explorer and do the following:
    1. Navigate to the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup folder and delete Acrobat Assistant.
    2. Navigate to the C: \Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\Distillr and rename the adistres.dll file to adistres.old.
    3. Restart the computer.
  9. After the computer restarts, delete the PDF.ocx file by doing the following:
    1. Open Command Prompt.
    2. Run the cd “C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\Acrobat\ActiveX” command.
    3. Run the regsvr32 /u PDF.ocx command.
    4. Exit the Command Prompt window and reboot the system.
  10. Open Windows Explorer and delete the following folders/files:
    1. C:\Program Files\Adobe folder
    2. C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe folder
    3. If present, Acrobat 6.0 Professional shortcut from Desktop
    4. Following shortcuts from Start menu:
      • Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Professional
      • Acrobat Distiller 6.0
      • PrintMe Internet Printing
    5. The Adobe PDF 6.0 folder from C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Shared Documents or C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents folder.
    6. The Distiller 6 folder from C:\Documents and Settings\<YourUserName>\Application Data\Adobe\Acrobat.
    7. Acrobat Distiller 6 from C:\Documents and Settings\<YourUserName>\Local Settings\Temp.
  11. In case you use Adobe eBooks, first move your current eBooks, from the C:\ Documents and Settings\<YourUserName>\Application Data\Adobe\Acrobat\6.0\eBooks to another location.
  12. Next, delete the C:\Documents and Settings\<YourUserName>\ My Documents\My eBooks folder.
  13. Navigate to the C:\Windows\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3 on Windows XP or C:\Winnt\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3 on Windows 2000 and delete the following files if you find them:
    • ad2kgelp.ini
    • ad2kregp.dll
    • ad2kuigp.dll
    • adpdf6.bpd
    • adpdf6.ppd
    • ps5ui.dll
    • pscript.hlp
    • pscript.ntf
    • pscript5.dll
  14. Delete the 6.0 folder from C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Acrobat.
  15. Delete the adobePDF.dll files from C:\Windows\system32 on Windows XP or C:\Winnt\system32 on Windows 2000.
  16. If you have Acrobat 6.0.2 on your PC, delete {AC76BA86-0000-0000-0000-6028747ADE01} from C:\Windows\Installer on Windows XP or C:\Winnt\Installer from Windows 2000.
  17. Delete the nppdf32.dll file from C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\PLUGINS, if you have Internet Explorer,
  18. Delete nppdf32.dll from C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape\Plugins, if you have Netscape Navigator 7.x.
  19. If you have Microsoft Office, delete the following:
  20. If Microsoft Office is installed, delete the following files:
    • PDFMaker.dot from the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office <version>\Startup
    • PDFMaker.xla from the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office <version>\XLStart folder
    • PDFMaker.xla from the C:\Documents and Settings\<YourUserName>\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART.
  21. If you have Microsoft Visio, delete PDFMVisio.vsl from C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Visio<version>\1033\Startup.
