How to Resolve ‘asl.dll is missing’ Error

The file asl.dll is associated with Apple Application Support. The file is required by your iTunes software to work, so we recommend you don’t delete this file if you use iTunes.

Error message 1

You may receive the following error message, when you boot your iPod using blackra1n, after upgrading to iTunes 9.1:

“The program can’t start because ASL.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.”

This error message is usually followed by another error message, which is:

“blackra1n.exe has stopped working

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify if you a solution is available.”

How the Fix this Error Message

The solution to the above-mentioned missing DLL error is fairly simple. You need to place the blackra1n.exe file in the Apple folder located under Common files in Program files.

The default path, both for 32-bit and 64-bit Windows computer, is listed below.

32-bit: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support

64-bit: C:\Program Files(x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support

After you have copied the blackra1n.exe file to the required location, either run the exe file from there or create its shortcut on your desktop and double-click it.

Error message 2

You may receive the following error when you try to run Music Rescue after installing iTunes 9.1:

“The program can’t start because ASL.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.”

After you install iTunes 9.1, Music Rescue fails to detect iPhones and iPod touches. Music Rescue has attributed the error to a change in iTunes 9.1’s iPhone components.
