How to Manage Internet Explorer Error Reporting

Do you find the Microsoft error report messages a bit annoying? Would you like to be able to get rid of these messages for good?

If you said yes to both questions, this registry tweak for Windows XP is perfect for you. This tweak will remove the IE error reporting tool from appearing. You no longer have to click “No” because the message won’t be appearing again.

Since you will be modifying your registry, you should be sure to create a back-up before making any changes to your registry. The back-up allows you to revert to your original settings should any issue arise.

Here are the steps to follow.

  1. Click on Start and go to Run. Enter regedit. A box will pop up on screen.
  2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE found on the left side of the box. Expand the folder.
  3. Look for Software. Expand this folder to take you to Microsoft.
  4. Expand Microsoft and look for Internet Explorer.
  5. Once you have expanded Internet Explorer, go to Main.
  6. Now look at the right side of the box. In the right hand pane look for IEWatsonEnabled. If the value is present, go to step seven. If the value is not present, create it. Follow the steps below to create IEWatsonEnabled
    • Right click on the right hand pane of the box.
    • Select New and then select DWORD.
    • Rename the value IEWatsonEnabled. Or, you can right click on the new DWORD value and select Rename.
  7. Double click on IEWatsonEnabled. A little box will pop up. Enter 0 as your value data.
  8. Look at the right side of the box again. Look for IEWatsonDisabled. If the value is present, go to step nine. If the value is not present, create IEWatsonDisabled by following instructions bnelow…
    • Right click on the right hand side of the box.
    • Select New and then select DWORD.
    • Rename the new value IEWatsonDisabled. You can also right click on the new DWORD value you created and select Rename.
  9. Double click on IEWatsonDisabled. A box will pop up. Enter 1 in the value data field.
  10. Exit the registry and reboot.
