This is a registry tweak that will allow the user to change the registered organization or owner of the copy of Windows XP. You will now be able to change registration data to reflect your personal information.
Important: This registry tweak does not have anything to do with Windows Product Activation at all, and will not allow you register bootleg or illegal copies of the software.
You should also note that the procedure involves making changes to the registry, so you should remember to make a backup of the current registry settings before you begin.
Here’s how you change the registered organization or owner of Windows XP.
- Click Start and go to Run. Enter regedit.
- On the left side of the registry editor, you will find HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. Expand the folder.
- Now look for the SOFTWARE folder. Expand the folder.
- You should be able to find Microsoft under SOFTWARE.
- Open up Microsoft to get to Windows NT.
- Expanding Windows NT will lead you to CurrentVersion.
- Look at the right hand side of the registry editor. Do you see RegisteredOrganization there? If the value is there, proceed to step 8. If not, go to step 7a.
- Right click on the right side of the registry editor.
- Select New and then select String Value.
- Rename the new String Value RegisteredOrganization. You can also change the new string value name by right clicking on it and selecting Rename.
