Easy Solution to granny2.dll Error

When you try to start the Age of Empires 3 game, you may receive the following error:

Performing Age of Empires 3 Complete Uninstall

Step 1 – Uninstall the game

  1. Click Start.
  2. Click Control Panel.
  3. Double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  4. Locate and select Age of Empires 3 in the currently installed programs list.
  5. Click Uninstall/Remove.

Step 2 – Delete the game folder

  1. Open Windows Explorer.
  2. Navigate to C:\Program Files.
  3. Locate and delete the Microsoft Age of Empires III folder.

Step 3 – Remove Age of Empire registry entries

Warning: These steps require edits to the registry. Serious damage may occur if you edit the registry incorrectly. We recommend that you proceed only if you are comfortable modifying the registry. Also, make a backup of the registry before editing it. An easy way to do so is to use a reliable registry maintenance software.

  1. Click Start.
  2. Click Run.
  3. In the Open box, type in ‘regedit’ and then press Enter.
  4. In the Registry Editor window, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ Software\ Microsoft\ Microsoft Games.
  5. Right-click the Age of Empires III expansion pack and then select Delete.
  6. Right-click the Age of Empires III folder and then select Delete.
  7. Browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft Games.
  8. Right-click the Age of Empires expansion pack and then select Delete.
  9. Right-click the Age of Empires III folder and then select Delete.
  10. Close the Registry Editor window.

Step 4 – Delete the saved games folder

  1. Click Start.
  2. Click My Documents.
  3. Double-click the My Games folder.
  4. Right-click on the folder Age of Empires 3 and then select Delete.

Age of Empires 3 is now completely uninstalled from your computer. Next, you need to create a new user profile and reinstall the game in your new user profiles. The steps on how to do this are discussed below.

Create a new user profile

  1. Click the Start menu.
  2. Click Control Panel.
  3. Click on User Accounts.
  4. Click Add on the Users tab.
  5. Feed in the name of your new account.
  6. Enter a user password, and confirm the password by typing it again.
  7. Click Next.
  8. Select the access level for your account.
  9. Click the Finish button.

Reinstall Age of Empires 3

  1. Insert the game’s CD in your CD-ROM.
  2. Let the setup run until the Change button appears.
  3. Click the Change button.
  4. Delete the existing path in the Path box, and type C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Age of Empires 3.
  5. Click on OK.
  6. Follow onscreen instructions to complete the installation process.
