Browse Faster in Windows Explorer on Network Computers

Just about anyone would like a faster computing experience. This is especially true if you are running a business or work in an office. Faster computing means more work gets done.

Windows XP, when connected to machines running Windows 95, Windows 98 or ME will hunt for tasks that have already been scheduled or printers that have already been enabled on the remote computer. If you’d like to increase the speed of browsing on a remote computer, you can disable two sub-keys in your registry that control this behavior. Once disabled, remote browsing speed will increase.

If you’d like to perform this registry tweak, you need to be on a Windows XP based computer. You also need to make a backup of your current registry settings to revert back to in case any errors occur. Any change you make to your registry is irreversible without a backup.

To browse faster in Windows Explorer on a network computer you should:

  1. Click on Start and go to Run. Enter regedit. Your registry editor will come up on your screen.
  2. Locate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE on the left side of your registry editor. You should expand this folder by clicking on the cross icon on the left.
  3. Look for Software. Expand this folder.
  4. Once you’ve expanded Software, look for Microsoft and expand it.
  5. Now go to Windows. Expand the folder and go to CurrentVersion.
  6. Expand CurrentVersion and look for Explorer.
  7. Expand Explorer and look for RemoteComputer. Once you find the folder, expand it.
  8. Go to NameSpace.
  9. Now look under NameSpace. You should be able to find {D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF}. Be careful as long letters and numbers can be confusing.
  10. Delete {D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF}
You have just disabled Scheduled Task Checking.
  11. Now look under NameSpace again. Find {2227A280-3AEA-1069-A2DE-08002B30309D}. Again, be careful because long letters and numbers can easily be mistaken for another string of letters and numbers.
  12. Delete {2227A280-3AEA-1069-A2DE-08002B30309D}.
  13. You have just disabled Printer Checking.
  14. Exit the registry and reboot.

Enjoy faster browsing!
